RVVN COLLEGE Raja Vasireddy Venkatadri Naidu College, DHARANIKOTA Amaravathi is famous Historically, Culturally and Religiously 'since times in memorial, has lost much of its ancient glory. It was an active center of Buddhism centuries ago. An International. Buddhist University flourished here long ago. Its ancient Religious importance gradually declined in course of time. But it regained its importance in the 18th century as a capital of an Andhra Kingdom. Sri Raja Vasireddy Venkatadri Nayudu ruled the Kingdom. During his period Amaravathi and Dharanikota were prominent places and regained their Religious fame. The ancient temple Lord Amareswara was constructed on the Southern bank of the Krishna river during his period. But its importance once again declined after the death of this benevolent King. Amaravathi is chiefly known today to the outside world for its famous Amareswara temple, some ancient Buddhist Monuments and ruling sculpture's of Sri Raja Vasireddy Venkatadri Nayudu. Amaravathi is situated on the Southern bank of river Krishna. It has only High School to cater the educational needs of the people of this area. It has a population of 10,000 and Dharanikota about 7,000. There are a number of small as well as big villages around Amaravathi. The nearest city of College education for all these villagers is Guntur which is about 35 km; away. Most of the 'student's could not go there and study at Guntur. Under these circumstances, as it is every need of starting the College and the responsibility of starting the College was taken by some influential elder's of this area. They received the whole hearted co-operation of Sri Kotha.Raghuramaiah, the then Minister of Parliamentary affairs, shipping and transport, Govt of India and the encouragement of Sri Raja Yaralagadda Ramakrishna Prasad, member of the syndicate AU who also donated R's. 25,000-00. Some donations were collected from the people and finally decided to establish the College in 1968 with the name of Sri Raja Vasireddy Venkatadri Nayudu, a famous past ruler of this area. He was a great lover of literature and fine arts. It was said that his court was always, flocked with men of talents in every walk of life. So it was, felt that his name would be fit to the College. From that time onwards many of the buildings were constructed from the funds of University Grant Commission and the donors. Most of the students belong to SC, ST and BC and Backward Communities. Many students are benefiting the scholarships of the State and Central government. There are about 900 students studying in this College. About 1.5 crores of amount is spent every year towards salaries, maintenance New courses are introduced from time to time to fulfill the latest needs of the students. It is very difficult to accommodate the students with the existing accommodation. Hence, it is proposed to construct another building. An amount about Rs.4,90,000.00 were sanctioned by University Grants Commission during Xth Plan period. Still we have a deficit of about Rs.5,00,000-00 to meet over and above expenditure of the building. A well-flourished Hostel was constructed with the assistance of U.G.C; and (some donors. Still it needs some new constructions. to accommodate the increasing strength of poor students. Still some more standards have to be maintained to reach high position and to place College and Hostel at a respectable position in the District, State and Country. Some more funds are required to fulfill the needs of the student community. The college management committee assured to put “Vasireddy” sirname to the entire block proposed to construct for hostel rooms provided our sirname people has to donate Rs 5,000,000.00.
